Harlequin and Jaws are GGSL's leading technology families, providing interpretation and rendering of page description languages such as the PostScript language, PDF, PCL and XPS, and delivering output to a multitude of industry and proprietary file formats and printing devices. Available on many industry standard platforms, our technology is also made available in toolkit form for developers to extend or integrate into their own projects.
We are seeking to fill a test engineer position within our Software Test Team based in Pune, India. This role involves the testing of RIP, SDK and PDL-related products on multiple platforms including Windows, Mac OS X and Unix as well as embedded systems. Many GGSL products are for customers based in the Far East, particularly Japan, and we need a test engineer that can read bug reports from Japanese customers as well as for testing software which is localized to Japanese. The ideal candidate will also have a good understanding of how Japanese documents are constructed and knowledge of the various font issues associated with electronic documents. The successful candidate will report to the Test Lead in our Electronic Document (eDoc) team and will work closely with other members of the Test, Development and Technical Support teams as necessary.
Principal responsibilities
- Construct detailed test plans and execute them with due diligence
- Ensure that products meet agreed standards before release
- Investigate reported problems and defects to enable developers to easily reproduce and fix defects
- Test and verify reported problems. Devise work-arounds if possible
- Develop test jobs that exercise new features under development
- Track problems and their solutions using in-house management tools
Essential skills and experience
- Able to read technical Japanese (as related to the computer and print industry)
- Minimum of 3 years industry experience gained in software testing and/or development
- Good knowledge of PCs and Windows-based operating systems
- Strong communication skills (in English). Able to work closely with clients and internal staff to understand and communicate technical issues
- Good analytical abilities
- Good team player but able to work on own initiative
Desirable skills
- Knowledge of the publishing/printing industry and of publishing software (such as, Quark Xpress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat and so on)
- Experience working with Linux and Apple Macintosh
- Experience with RIPs and PDL conversion/editing tools
- Ability to write and speak Japanese fluently
