Cambridge, UK and Centreville US 09/08/2006 03:00:00 PM

Global Graphics Software, the technology experts for open document and print solutions, has appointed Martin Bailey as its chief technology officer.

Bailey, who has been promoted from the role of senior technical consultant, will be responsible for developing the Company’s technology plan and will oversee the specification, design and implementation of technology across all Global Graphics’ software solutions. These include the Harlequin® and Jaws® RIPs, Jaws PDF technologies and the Company’s broad spectrum of implementation options for XPS (XML Paper Specification) the new print and document format for the upcoming release of Windows Vista.

Commenting on his new role Mr. Bailey said, “This is an exciting time to take up the challenge as CTO at Global Graphics. The increasing adoption of digital printing technology, combined with Microsoft's upcoming release of Windows Vista and the XPS specification are shaking up the whole industry. Being able to help guide a comprehensive set of technologies that enable our OEM partners to produce innovative products in response to those changes promises to be a rewarding experience.”

Mr Bailey is widely known in the graphic arts and commercial print markets as a leading expert on page description languages and an advocate of industry standards in which he has been especially active. In 2002 he won the coveted Roland Zavada Standards Award, "The Rollie," presented by the Committee for Graphic Arts Technologies Standards (CGATS) in recognition of the significant contribution of an individual toward the development of U.S. graphic arts standards through active participation in accredited standards activities.

Last year he was appointed vice chairman and then chairman of CGATS. He also chairs the ANSI/CGATS SC6 Task Force 1 and also the International Standards Organization TC130 WG2 TF2, both of which are developing aspects of PDF/X.

For the past six years, Mr. Bailey has been the CEO of CIP4 (the International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Pre-press, Press and Post-press) and specifier of the JDF standard. In a few weeks time he steps down to take up a place on the Advisory Board.

Mr. Bailey is also involved in standards work relating to variable data printing and reliable print workflows.

Global Graphics is a keen supporter of industry standards and has a broad patent portfolio touching many areas of printing technology. The Company has extensive expertise in Page Description Languages and has been working with PostScript® since the late 80s, with the Portable Document Format (PDF) since it was introduced in 1993 and, during the past three years, has provided consultancy and proof of concept development services to Microsoft on XPS. Global Graphics’ technology portfolio includes: Raster Image Processors (RIPs) that convert text and images into printable form; software for document conversion and manipulation; and, components for digital workflows and color management.
