Next Generation Technology

eDocument Library

True PDL conversion and optimization:
eDocument Library provides conversion and optimization capabilities to and from PDLs including PostScript, PDF, PCL and XPS. In addition, it supports open standards such as
PDF/A and PDF/X.

CoreAPI:
Document operations are carried out via the core eDocument Library API. Development at this API level ensures that the majority of the development is independent of the input or output format. It also makes it possible for application developers to swap out eDocument Library manipulation capabilities for their own.

Extensible architecture enables support for proprietary and new PDLs:
eDocument Library is built on an architecture that provides a common core internal representation for all supported PDL formats. This extensible architecture enables proprietary or future PDL formats to be easily added. OEMs can even add PDL formats which they can then license themselves.

Comprehensive page-level and object-level document access:
Using the powerful and comprehensive API, eDocument Library offers complete access
to and manipulation of the objects, parameters and metadata of a document during the conversion process, including text, images, fonts, color space etc. Objects can be accessed by their type or via any alternative object-specific mechanism. Page-level access to documents is also possible including page orientation, bookmarks, annotations, thumbnails and page labeling.

Thumbnail and high-res preview capabilities:
eDocument Library contains Global Graphics’ core RIP technology enabling the generation of thumbnails and high resolution images that can be used, for example, for previewing.

Support for Industry Standards:
Through the ability to manipulate document content based on a set of predefined rules, eDocument Library is able to create documents to industry standards such as PDF/X and PDF/A. It can also be used to identify badly formed/invalid input documents and repair, fix
or abort the conversion process.
