Global Graphics’ PDF Creator platform is a combination of technologies for creating PDF files from a variety of sources. It includes a virtual printer driver for Windows, and a converter application that can convert from PostScript® or XPS into PDF.
PDF Creation: faster, better, smaller
gDoc PDF Creator has been verified as being faster, producing high-quality conversion and with a smaller footprint than Adobe® Acrobat® across a selection of customer supplied test files, when converting documents into PDF from Microsoft Office.
This converter provides a Setup Manager that enables the user to create a profile for conversion, controlling aspects such as image compression, font handling and security. This is also accessible from the printer driver’s control panel.
In addition the converter integrates third-party technology that can drive custom conversions of documents, typically into PDF but also Word .DOC format.
All of these components can be branded as required.
Virtual Printer Driver
For the user, creating a PDF is as simple as printing from their application and choosing where they want the PDF to be saved. They can choose the type of conversion they require, and specify a password to control access to the PDF if they desire. Standard conversion profiles, or Setups, are provided. The default, General, provides a balance between quality and file size and is a suitable choice for most purposes, but there are more specialised Setups for web publishing (emphasis on small file size), printing (retains fonts and colour) and archiving to the PDF/A-1b ISO standard.
The driver works by converting an XPS spool file into PDF using EDL. Global Graphics’ eDocument Library (EDL) encapsulates our extensive knowledge and experience with PDF, XPS, PostScript and PCL into a single technology and in this case provides a high-fidelity conversion that in many cases is quicker than the equivalent process using PostScript.
PDF converter
The converter is a standalone application that provides access to the conversion capabilities of Creator, bypassing the print driver.
Utilising a simple drag’n’drop interface, multiple input files can be converted in one operation. The converter logs each conversion in a scrollable window, and provides access to the Setup manager for choosing and customising the conversion to PDF. The converter will also accept PDF as an input format, enabling workflows where PDFs intended for printing, for example, can be transformed into documents suitable for viewing online.
The converter can also save to Word .DOC format, turning fixed-pages into editable documents.
