Harlequin® SetGold Pro

Harlequin SetGold Pro is a wizard-based color utility designed to create high quality grey balance or "Golden State", input, emulation and output profiles, optimized for the Harlequin® Server RIP, in order to satisfy today’s color accurate digital printing and proofing requirements. Color accurate printing and proofing is only possible if devices can be calibrated, and profiles can be optimised for a given ink, substrate, screening and resolution combination.

SetGold Pro - a wizard driven utility.

Harlequin SetGold Pro incorporates many solutions for color profile making by drawing from the latest Graphic Arts community research with the result of more color accuracy. Using Harlequin SetGold Pro profiles along with the Harlequin ColorPro™ feature set, one can solve any workflow requirements your situation may demand.

Industry standard targets

Input profile data must be able to represent real world printing or industry standards to be of anyvalue. Great care is needed when running a press for the purposes of collecting data for color characterization. Harlequin SetGold Pro comes with industry standard targets but also included are randomized targets shown to be statistically more accurate on press. Multiple sampling is also possible because Harlequin SetGold Pro allows for any number of targets data files to be imported and processed together. Once the data has been imported a file is created and when printed the input profile is generated and placed in the RIP for immediate use in any Harlequin ColorPro setup.

Emulation profiles are generally the same as input profiles and created in a similar way. Their use is important in RGB and mixed color space workflows. More information on these types of profiles can be found in the Harlequin ColorPro documentation.

Gray balance

A grey balanced profile is the first step in building an output profile for a new printing device. This procedure guided by an informative GUI, can determine the correct inking, gray balance and correct the tonal scales values for a new device. This important step improves profile accuracy and is often overlooked. This "Golden State" is then captured and calibration tables can be created for up to 4 devices types and or measurement systems so that any non-reference printer can be adjusted to this "Golden State". What this means is profiles made at the Harlequin Color Labs on their printers can be used on a field printer and still be highly color accurate.

Golden state

Output profiles must be built on sound color science principles to produce color accurate proofs or final print color gamuts. Harlequin SetGold Pro profiles are really containers for environment variables at the time the profile was made, "Golden State" curve data, calibration and color characterization target data. Harlequin SetGold Pro provides a variety of targets from which to print and collect the data to meet a variety of requirements. Once the Harlequin SetGold Pro output profile is made all of the features of the Harlequin ColorPro in RIP color technology can be used to optimize the printing.

Ease-of use: automation and a wizard

Designed around a GUI "wizard", SetGold steps the user easily through the iterative process of output-measure-output, performing mathematical comparisons and adjustments automatically and quickly. Harlequin SetGold Pro easily imports industry standard IT8 format data files.

Full scale gray balance profile creation, input, emulation and output profiles.

The Harlequin SetGold Pro calibration process adjusts the CMYK color scales to reduce ‘overinking’ and establish the best possible gray balance of the CMY color combinations throughout the tonal scale for the selected paper type and resolution. Once achieved, the golden state profile becomes the starting point for full color characterization, profiling and color management. One can use this profile to print targets used by third party ICC packages or build Harlequin profiles to be used with the Harlequin RIP color technology.

Using Harlequin SetGold Pro requires a freshly installed Harlequin RIP version 6.0x or higher, connected to the target 4, 6, 7, 8 ink color printer and a spectrophotometer capable of producing Lab and Status T measurements (along with their calibration plaques).
