Mobile printing

Mobile workers now comprise a large and growing proportion of the workforce (studies estimate more than 70% in the US). They need to access, view and print information wherever they are: at the airport, in the hotel, the coffee shop or a home or remote office location. Printing from mobile devices has the potential to grow from fewer than 3 million pages in 2009 to more than 100 million by 2012, to nearly 2 billion by 2015 ( Lyra Research). Printer manufacturers need to be ready with compatible solutions.

Global Graphics can support your mobile printing initiative through a number of options that are straightforward to deploy and enable a quick and simple solution for the mobile user. By integrating Global Graphics technology into your cloud strategy or your printing devices you make it possible to print any type of file from a wide variety of mobile devices; not just PDF or image formats but Microsoft Office files too.

Your mobile printing strategy

Global Graphics has the expertise to ensure your initiative is successful. Our software natively processes MS Office documents to a format printers can consume. Work with us to ensure your printer range can print files sent from users’ laptops, tablets or slates, Smart phones or stored on a USB stick.

The user doesn’t need an Internet connection or a printer driver on the mobile device; all they need is a simple app that can transmit the original Word, PowerPoint, PDF or image file.

Peer-to-peer, driverless mobile printing

Embed our mobile printing SDK into the printer on new product lines. Deploy the solutions on current printer models via an external box that sits alongside the printer or by adding a daughter board. The mobile printing SDK will render from the original file to a raster format suitable for your device, or to a PDL that can be consumed by the existing controller.Platforms supported are Linux/Unix/RTOS in the printer and Linux/Unix/Windows on the server.

Use cases

The technology will work equally well for printing from mobile devices and from USB drives inserted into the printer or external box. It’s also ideal for a kiosk environment.

Performance

Printing times and speeds when receiving files over Bluetooth average at the same order of magnitude as printing directly from Office running on an average business laptop over USB but without the overhead of opening the document in MS Office. When documents are delivered over Wi-Fi performance can be significantly higher because of the increased transfer rate.

And this performance is not achieved at the cost of battery life on your mobile device; all it has had to do is transmit the document, without changing it in any way.

Partners

Global Graphics partners with several CPU and SOC vendors whose products are used in printers across the spectrum from home all-in-one devices to enterprise MFPs, including Intel, and ARM-based platforms such as Conexant and Marvell. Whatever hardware you use in an embedded system you’ll find that our technology will maximize your page throughput.

Footprint

Adding the Office document module to the Harlequin Embedded SDK does increase footprint slightly above that required for PostScript®, PDF and XPS. 256MB RAM is recommended for the combined solution.

Mobile printing using the cloud

Integrate our Office document conversion technology into your cloud-based solution to receive files from dedicated mobile apps, email attachments etc. The Global Graphics solution will convert them to a PDL suitable for your target printers, including PDF, PCL and PostScript.

Use cases

The Global Graphics technology is equally applicable to on- and off-premise cloud solutions, making it ideal for the whole spectrum from freemium sales strategies to enterprise installations, including Managed Print Solutions.

Outside of mobile print, our technology can be used in a variety of solutions to meet other needs where Office documents must be converted to PDF.

Performance

The Global Graphics technology is an efficient, lightweight component that can convert Office documents at very high speed. It’s optimized for virtualization and to enable multiple instances to run on a single server. It’s ideal for solutions to convert hundreds of thousands or millions of pages per hour, and just as effective for installation on a shared server to convert occasional print jobs.

Cost effective

Combining quality to rival that achieved by automating Office itself, with far lower resource requirements allows you to build a highly responsive cloud solution at a fraction of the cost, and be able to increase or decrease your provisioning faster and more easily. If you’re running your own server farm, fewer servers means lower ongoing power and cooling requirements, so reducing costs is also green!

Quality

A fast, efficient conversion or rendering technology is only valuable if the quality it achieves is suitable for the target audience. Global Graphics has refined the quality of our technology against a wide variety of Office documents, including those from JEITA and QualityLogic suites and custom test files from prospects.
