THE CHALLENGE

Eager to take their business to the next level, Jetron Digital Printing Systems, a leading manufacturer of industrial inkjet printing solutions, wanted to optimize the efficiency and print quality of their digital printing presses. Jetron produce two types of industrial inkjet presses, namely the D2 Shape and D2 Roll systems, each offering a range of solutions for direct-to-shape and roll-to-roll printing, respectively. A critical consideration was addressing the variable Raster Image Processor (RIP) needs across different machines when handling complex graphics and large files, along with seamless integration with their web-based print management software, Saga.

KEY FACTS
  • Jetron’s D2Shape CT Series direct-to-shape digital printing systems print directly onto cylindrical objects made of plastic, metal and paper without colour and quantity limitations.

  • Print speed is 5000 pcs/hour and material dimensions are 20 – 80 mm diameter and 54 – 254 mm length.

  • D2Roll – offers roll-to-roll printing on materials of various widths including standard labels, coated or uncoated paper, cardboard, and aluminum foil.

“We found the technical support from Global Graphics Software to be highly responsive, knowledgeable, and effective in addressing any issues or questions that arose during the integration process.”

THE SOLUTION

After evaluating several solutions, they chose Global Graphics Software and its Harlequin Core RIP technology. Alper Yercik, CTO at Jetron comments: “Performance was key to our choice; we need to be confident that our presses can print variable data at speed, with no underruns. We were aware of the Harlequin Core and its reputation for high performance and being the fastest RIP on the market – crucial for variable data printing at high speed. We felt the solution from Global Graphics aligned with our technical requirements and business goals.”

Paul Dormer, product manager for Harlequin Core explains: “We discussed Jetron’s technical requirements, and after some initial testing it became apparent they did not need to use the full feature set of the Harlequin Core SDK. It struck me that the command-line component of Harlequin Core was the perfect solution for Jetron; it is easy to integrate and ideal for those building inkjet presses who don’t have complex requirements for outputting to the device, such as tiling, raster management or custom screening.”

Harlequin Core’s command-line component has a simple licensing model and a lower price than a full inline RIP farm Digital Front End, which was not required for Jetron’s specific use case.

Jetron’s D2Shape product family offers high-quality printing direct to shape on materials such as HDPE, PP, aluminum and tin, with no quantity or color limitations.

"The implementation of Harlequin Core has proven to be pivotal, offering full integration capabilities with our system. This strategic integration ensures a cohesive and efficient workflow, allowing us to navigate the complexities of digital printing seamlessly.”

THE RESULT

“Integrating Harlequin Core into our presses has resulted in significantly improved print quality, increased productivity, and enhanced versatility, enabling us to explore new markets and ultimately boost our sales,” comments Alper. “Importantly, integrating our Saga print management software with the Harlequin Core is an example of a successful combination of user-friendly software and cutting-edge RIP technology. It’s elevated our operational efficiency and placed us at the forefront of the industry.”

Overall, implementing Harlequin Core has transformed Jetron's digital printing capabilities and positively impacted their business performance. Plans are underway to make further enhancements in future releases, including the use of CxF/X-4 color exchange format to make brand colors even more accurate.
